Silver-grey decking — controlled patina
All timber greys. The difference is whether it greys evenly or in patches. SiOO:X controls the process so decking develops a calm, uniform silver tone.
THE ORIGINAL SILICATE WOOD PROTECTION SINCE 1994
How an even silver tone develops
Controlled greying
Silica creates a mineral surface that reflects light evenly — the patina becomes a tone, not a stain.
Less blackening
A breathable surface dries faster, which counteracts the dark discolouration that develops in permanently damp timber.
Even UV ageing
The whole surface ages at the same rate instead of the sunny side racing ahead of the shaded side.
How to get a silver-grey patina
For a silver-grey result the decking should not be pigmented. Premium Color is for cladding and façades.
How long does patination take?
The silver-grey tone typically develops over 6–18 months depending on orientation, climate and species. South-facing surfaces grey fastest. With WoodScan you can photograph the decking and track how the patina develops over time.
Frequently asked questions about silver patina
Can I speed up the greying?
Patination is driven by UV and weather. SiOO:X makes it even, but the timeline depends on exposure.
Why is my timber greying in patches?
Uneven moisture, remaining old surface treatment or dirt cause patchy degradation. Thorough cleaning before treatment is decisive.
Can the patina be removed later?
Yes, Re-Wash lightens the surface and restores a more even tone.
Does the same apply to façades?
Yes, but façades are treated with two coats of Wood Protector and one of Surface Protector.
