How to apply SiOO:X to decking and cladding

Correct application is the key to SiOO:X's long service life and beautiful patina. Follow this guide to prepare the surface, apply the right number of coats and avoid the most common mistakes.

Decking

Wooden floors and patios

PREPARATION

Clean the deck with SiOO:X Wood Cleaner or pressure washer. Let the surface dry for at least 48 hours.
Sand off imperfections and loose fibres. The goal is a clean, healthy wood surface.
Mask and protect details, glass and plants that should not be treated.

IMPORTANT TO CONSIDER

• Only work at temperatures between 5 °C and 25 °C.
• Avoid direct sunlight – treat early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
• The surface must be dry and free of dust, leaves and dirt.
• Do not apply if rain is expected within 24 hours.
• Always stir the container before use.
• Use a brush, not a roller or sprayer, for best penetration.
• Protect skin and eyes. Use gloves and work clothes.
• Let each coat dry at least 24 hours before the next treatment.

STEP 1

Wood Protector – first base treatment

Pour SiOO:X Wood Protector into a clean bucket.
Brush generously in the direction of the wood grain.
Make sure all surfaces and joints are saturated.
Let the product penetrate and dry for 24 hours.
Avoid puddles – brush out excess after a few minutes.
Let the surface dry at room temperature, protected from rain.

STEP 2

Wood Protector – second base treatment

Apply a second coat of Wood Protector after 24 hours.
Brush again with the grain.
Let dry for another 24 hours.

STEP 3

Drying and inspection

Check that the surface is evenly saturated and free of glossy spots.
Allow another 24 hours drying time before Surface Protector.

HOW IT WORKS

SiOO:X reacts with the wood's natural lignin and mineralises the surface.
The surface gains a silver-grey patina over time without being covered by paint.
The wood breathes and dries faster, reducing the risk of mould and rot.

MAINTENANCE

Decking treated with SiOO:X requires minimal maintenance. Follow these routines for the best result:

Clean the surface with water and a soft brush when needed.
Avoid pressure washing at close range – it can damage the wood surface.
Inspect joints and edges annually.
Complement with Surface Protector when worn or after 2–4 years.
Expect a 15-year maintenance interval with correct application.

Wooden walls and facades

Clean the facade from dirt, mould and loose fibres.
Let the wood dry for at least 48 hours before treatment.
Sand lightly and remove dust with a soft brush.
• Treat at even temperature and low humidity.
• Avoid strong sun and rain during drying time.
• Always use healthy wood surfaces – rot or mould must be addressed first.
• Always brush with the grain.
• Mix the product well before use.
• Let each coat dry at least 24 hours.
• Use a respirator when sanding and ensure good ventilation.
• Protect the surroundings from splashes and drips.

TOOLS

Use a quality brush with natural or synthetic bristles suitable for water-based products. Also have clean cloths, protective gloves and masking tape at hand.

Wood Protector – double base treatment

Apply the first coat of Wood Protector generously with the grain.
Make sure end grain and joints are also saturated.
Let dry for 24 hours.
Apply the second coat in the same way.

Surface Protector – protective finish

Apply Surface Protector in an even coat.
Brush out excess and avoid puddles.
Let dry for 24 hours before rain or touching.

Regular inspection

Inspect the facade annually.
Clean lightly with water and a brush.
Complement with Surface Protector when needed.

LONG-TERM MAINTENANCE

Cladding treated with SiOO:X stays beautiful and protected for many years. Follow this advice:

Clean the surface at regular intervals.
Avoid harsh detergents and abrasive tools.
Check critical points such as end grain and trim.
Complement with a new coat of Surface Protector when worn.
Expect a 15-year maintenance interval.
