Wood protection for decks and terraces
A deck takes sun, rain and footfall at the same time. SiOO:X mineralises the timber from within, so the surface lasts without cracking, peeling or annual sanding.
THE ORIGINAL SILICATE WOOD PROTECTION SINCE 1994
Why decking needs its own system
Direct UV load
Decking boards face the sun straight on all day. The surface degrades faster than a façade and needs protection that forms no film.
Standing water
Rain sits on flat surfaces. Breathable protection lets moisture leave the timber instead of trapping it.
Foot traffic
Because the silica sits inside the fibre rather than on top of it, the protection is not worn away like a coating.
How to treat your deck
Decking = 1 coat Wood Protector + 1 coat Surface Protector. New or fully cleaned, untreated timber only.
Coverage and cost for a deck
Wood Protector covers ~8–10 m²/litre, Surface Protector ~10–12 m²/litre. A 30 m² deck needs roughly 3.5 litres of Wood Protector and 3 litres of Surface Protector. Calculate exact volumes and cost for your dimensions in the calculator.
Frequently asked questions about deck protection
When should I treat the deck?
When the timber is dry and temperatures stay above +5 °C, ideally with no rain within 24 hours. Spring and late summer work best in Northern Europe.
How often does a deck need maintenance?
Re-Wash plus one coat of Surface Protector every 2–3 years. No sanding, no removal of an old film.
Can I treat an existing deck?
Yes, provided all previous surface treatment is removed and the timber is clean, dry and sound. Use WoodScan to assess its condition.
Will the deck get slippery?
No. SiOO:X leaves no film on the surface, so the natural texture and grip of the timber remain.
